Aviation Scholarships

The women ACEs Scholarship Application affords female, graduating seniors the opportunity to receive one of the two scholarships: Exploration Scholarship and Donna-Lee Nattrass Scholarship.

The Exploration Scholarship recognizes a young woman pursuing a career in aviation. The scholarship recipient would exemplify service and scholarship by demonstrating excellence in her academic pursuits and commitment to community and volunteerism. Applicants must exhibit a strong interest in “Exploration” of the aviation industry. The scholarship amount is $500 and is generously sponsored by Dreiling Aviation Services (DAS). Located in Salina, Kansas, DAS offers aviation business consulting services and operational services for small Uncrewed Aircraft Systems. The scholarship funds will be applied to activities and experiences that support aviation exploration.

The Donna-Lee Nattrass Scholarship recognizes a young woman pursuing a career in aviation. The scholarship recipient would exemplify service and scholarship by demonstrating excellence in her academic pursuits and commitment to community and volunteerism. The scholarship is named in honor of Donna-Lee Nattrass whose career in the aviation industry spans more than fifty years. Nattrass began her career at Piper Aircraft serving in a number of roles including working on the final assembly line; her experience and passion for aviation took her to work on warbird restoration and aircraft re-location; after mastering the planning and logistics of aircraft re-location, she eventually became the President of Worldwide Aircraft Recovery. Additionally, Nattrass has volunteered for SUN ‘n FUN since the first fly-in. The scholarship amount is $2,000 and is generously sponsored by the family of Donna-Lee Nattrass. The scholarship funds will be applied to tuition and fees of the aviation maintenance training institution the recipient selects.

The READY. SET. SOAR Scholarship recognizes an exemplary female graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding academic performance, exceptional leadership skills, sustained community service, and a pursuit toward a career in the aviation industry, including but not limited to aviation management and administration, aeronautical engineering, aviation maintenance, and professional pilot.

The award amount is $7500 to be used for tuition, fees, training, and/or course materials at an educational institution of the recipient’s choice. The READY. SET. SOAR Scholarship is generously funded by Lisa Holland, President of Sheltair Aviation Services.

JSfirm.com will make an annual charitable gift of $1,500 to the Aerospace Center for Excellence a 501 (c) (3) to establish an annual scholarship. The scholarship will be designated for students attending the Central Florida Aerospace Academy, a Polk County, FL public school. The scholarship is designated for the selected student to continue their education in the field of aerospace mechanics. The Donor has pledged $1,500, annually. The scholarship will be awarded upon the pledge payment.

The John “Lites” Leenhouts Scholarship is presented to a student whose achievements and ambitions reflect the same values and interests that are so meaningful to “Lites” both professionally and recreationally.

The scholarship is open to students seeking a degree in Aviation or Engineering subject areas, preferably in management or another administrative discipline or pursuing advanced ratings toward a piloting career. Students must have successfully completed at least two semesters at an accredited post-secondary institution and be actively engaged in a program supported by the Aerospace Center for Excellence.

The Wingman Scholarship ($2500) is presented to the graduating Senior student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding scholastic accomplishment, exemplary character and motivating leadership during their tenure at Central Florida Aerospace Academy. The Wingman honoree has been an example to others in not only academic excellence but in service to their community. The Wingman has demonstrated support for the Aerospace Center for Excellence’s mission of “Engage, Educate and Accelerate the next generation of aerospace professionals.”

The Top Gun Citation of Merit ($5000) is presented to the graduating Senior student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding scholastic accomplishment, exemplary character and motivating leadership during their tenure at Central Florida Aerospace Academy. The Top Gun honoree has been an example to others in not only academic excellence but in service to their community. The Top Gun’s standout performance and work ethic in all areas define them as an influential moving force in the future of the aerospace industry by supporting the Aerospace Center for Excellence’s mission: Engage, Educate, and Accelerate the next generation of aerospace professionals.

The Aerospace Center for Excellence Scholarship is awarded to one student per school year who plans to pursue an aerospace or aviation-related major at an accredited college or university. The recipient should demonstrate leadership, scholarship, and service. The award amount is $1000.

Apply through the Polk Education Foundation

Purpose: The James C. Ray Scholarship aims to support individuals pursuing careers in aviation, including but not limited to pilot, maintenance technician, avionics technician, or aviation administration. The flight training scholarship solely supports students pursuing their Private Pilot’s License.

Application window of submission and notification timeline:

Applications will be accepted January 1-31, May 1-30, and October 1-31; applicants will be notified by February 28, June 30, and November 30, respectively.

The JCR Continuing Education Scholarship (CES) is awarded to graduating seniors who will continue their academic pathway at a post-secondary institution of their choice in pursuit of a career in aviation. Once awarded, recipients are eligible for three additional years of funding contingent upon their submitting updated documents for the respective school year.

$2,000 for tuition

Flight training scholarships are intended to assist students of all ages receiving instruction toward a private pilot certificate, sport pilot certificate, or commercial certificate, additional ratings, endorsements, and training such as: instrument, tailwheel, multiengine, aerobatics, etc.

All applications are reviewed against the criteria for the individual scholarships and then awarded to those who show the greatest potential to be actively engaged in aviation.

• We look for passionate, motivated, and career-driven students.
• Participation in aviation clubs, organizations, and volunteer experiences will highlight your application.
• Preference given to EAA members or members of their local EAA chapter.

Each scholarship has its own criteria, such as financial need, involvement as an EAA member, chapter member, or EAA Young Eagle, geographical location, and age requirements.

 Jannus Scholars program

In January of 1914, Tony Jannus flew a paying passenger from St. Petersburg to Tampa in a Benoist airboat. This achievement established the Tampa Bay area as the home of the first scheduled commercial airline. Each year, the Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society celebrates this historic aviation achievement by recognizing a distinguished individual for outstanding contributions to scheduled air transportation.

The society also looks to the future by providing scholars awards to eligible undergraduate college students and trade school students who are enrolled in programs that could result in careers in aviation. The 2025 awards program has three elements:

Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society Scholars Award

The Society plans to provide up to seven students a cash award of $4,500 each. At least one award will be given to an aviation trade school applicant.

Southwest Airlines Jannus Award

Southwest Airlines is sponsoring an additional travel award to each of the Scholars Award recipients by providing two roundtrip tickets to any destination they serve. Southwest Airlines is committed to education advancement and invests in workforce development programs that introduce students to the diverse set of career opportunities in the aviation industry. From pilots to accountants and everything in between, Southwest offers a range of opportunities to help students soar to new heights in jobs of the future. Southwest is a proud partner of The Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society and supports their mission to promote and provide support to students pursuing a career in commercial aviation.

Richard Newton Memorial Award

A supplemental award of $4,500 will be provided to the highest scoring applicant in memory of past Tony Jannus President, Col. Richard Newton Jr.

The National Association of State Aviation Officials’ (NASAO) “Henry O.” Scholarship program awards $2,500 to three college students continuing their education in the aviation or aerospace industry. Applicant must be an incoming junior or senior college student (or going into their second year of study for a two-year degree) and maintain a minimum major GPA of 3.0.

Sherry Hadley Memorial Scholarship

Sponsored by Airborne Public Safety Association (ASPA)

This scholarship is available to high school seniors, full-time college/university or accredited trade school students.

• United Aviate Academy Scholarship, for applicants conditionally accepted to or currently enrolled at the United Aviate Academy.

Aviation Technician (A&P Certification) Scholarship, for students enrolled in or accepted to an FAA recognized A&P program in the United States or its territories.

• Aerospace Degree Scholarship, for students pursuing any aerospace field including engineering, business, maintenance, ATC, dispatch, or technology. Flight training excluded.

Flying Musicians team with music directors and flight instructors to offer a scholarship to Learn to Fly.

Are you a high school music student? Do you want to learn to fly? Have your music director/teacher nominate you for the FMA Solo program. In cooperation with FMA’s corporate members and sponsors nationwide, this program will assist juniors and seniors in high school who have been nominated by their music director/teacher.

“We have found that, perhaps more than any other teachers, band directors get to know their students’ dreams. With these scholarships, they can help select students achieve them.”

The Association of Flight Attendants Scholarship Fund is intended to provide financial assistance to dependents of our members who will be attending a college or university.

The Scholarship is managed and distributed through the Association of Flight Attendants Scholarship Fund Committee.  AFA is the largest union in the United States representing flight attendants.

To further the education of promising young men and women who are dependents of AFA members in good standing who otherwise would not have the opportunity for higher education.

For Primary Training- Established in 2021 and is donated by John Godfrey, ACONE Director.  

For Primary Training- Established in 2021 by the Hampson Family in order to support aspiring female pilots and promote increased gender diversity in aviation. 

For Primary Training- Established in 2023 and funded by the Directors of the Club in the effort to develop and foster aviation enthusiasts through primary training.

This scholarship, funded by the Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund, is awarded to a certificated female pilot who does not currently have a helicopter rating and provides $8,000 to be applied towards earning her add-on helicopter rating. The applicant will be evaluated for evidence of intent to work in the helicopter industry.

This scholarship is provided by the Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund and the Jean Tinsley estate. Jean Tinsley, WG #118, was a strong advocate of camaraderie and mentorship among female aviators. In commemoration of Jean’s love of meetings, also know as “hoverings,” one Whirly-Girl will receive a trip to join the Whirly-Girls for the Annual Awards Banquet and Whirly-Girls events at HAI HELI-EXPO. Scholarship includes an HAI HELI-EXPO show pass with access to the expo floor, one HAI HELI-EXPO Professional Education Course, training seminars, and associated events; five nights’ shared accommodations; $600 travel and meal stipend, and a Whirly-Girls Awards Banquet ticket.

This scholarship is provided by the Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund and combines the Phelan International and Doris Mullen Flight Training Scholarships. This scholarship is given in memory of our founder, Jean, and her husband, Jim Phelan, along with the memory of Doris Mullen who lost her life in a fixed wing accident in 1968. This scholarship provides $8,000 to a Whirly-Girl to be applied towards upgrading or advancing her current helicopter rating. (The scholarship is typically applied toward Commercial, Instrument, Instructor, ATP, or Turbine Transition Training.)

The Willard G. Plentl Aviation Scholarship will be awarded to a Virginia High School senior who is planning an aviation career in a non-engineering area. A certification of acceptance into a non-engineering, aviation-related postsecondary education program is required. Examples of non-engineering aviation careers include (but are not limited to) pilots, aviation maintenance technicians, aviation managers, etc.

NBAA Charities annually awards $2,500 to each of two applicants pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award will benefit a student who is currently enrolled in an accredited airframe and powerplant (A&P) program at an approved FAR Part 147 school. The second award will benefit an individual who is not currently enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an A&P program. The scholarship is named in honor of retired NBAA staff member William M. Fanning, who was active in maintenance issues during his nearly 20-year tenure at the Association.

This scholarship is offered each year to graduate students doing excellent research in the air and space sciences.

The WINCO Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating Scholarship is awarded each year to a pilot who has a private helicopter license and is in the process of attaining a commercial helicopter rating. 

The scholarship awards US$5,000 toward the cost of obtaining a commercial helicopter rating. In addition, the scholarship recipient receives:

• A complimentary full registration to VERTICON (formerly HAI HELI-EXPO) for the recipient and a guest (hotel and travel expenses are the responsibility of the scholarship winner and guest).

Presented by WINCO Powerline Services The WINCO Maintenance Technician Certificate Scholarship is awarded to one student in training to become an aviation maintenance technician.

The scholarship awards US$5,000 toward the cost of obtaining your aviation maintenance certificate. In addition, the scholarship recipient receives:

• A complimentary full registration to VERTICON (formerly HAI HELI-EXPO) for the recipient and a guest (hotel and travel expenses are the responsibility of the scholarship winner and guest).

The Wings over 35 Scholarship is designed to promote general aviation among men and women over the age of 35 and aid in attaining certification as a Private Pilot. Applicants must explain their goals in aviation and what they have done thus far towards attaining that goal. Address financial need in your essay. All proceeds will be paid directly to the flight school of their choice and must be used within a year of receiving the award.

This scholarship will be awarded to an individual membership holder, not required to be a student, pursuing any type of aviation interest. Include in your essay how you plan to use the scholarship if awarded and what you have accomplished to date to reach your goals.

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time college or university student pursuing any type of aviation or aviation related career. Include in your essay how you plan to use the scholarship if awarded and what you have accomplished to date to reach your goals.

This award is for any member pursuing professional development or career advancement in any job classification of “corporate and/or business aviation”. The award must be used toward a specific program of education. Suggested uses include: Flight Training, Dispatcher Training, Maintenance Training, Corporate Flight Attendant Training and Leadership Training (i.e., NBAA CAM). The award cannot be used for general business course work.

Women Military Aviators (WMA) seeks to preserve the important role women have played in creating and supporting the American Spirit through their contributions to flight, aeronautics and space. These elite bands of women have not only a love of aviation, but have put their lives on the line in defense of their country through their military service. WMA is committed to passing this legacy from one generation of women to another and has established an annual scholarship program in support of this commitment.

For Aviation Maintenance Technology- Established in 2016 and funded by the Aero Club of New England.

This scholarship award is based on a written essay. The topic is: “The Importance of Agricultural Aviation”.

The WAI Washington State Chapter offers a $1,500 scholarship for STEM education in memory of Yukiko Howell. Yukiko taught math, science, and Japanese language for many years at Annie Wright School, a private school in Tacoma, Washington, and was an active chapter volunteer. STEM careers include but are not limited to science, engineering, air traffic controller, avionics technician, dispatch certification, aircraft mechanic, meteorologist, and STEM educator.

The Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. Aircraft Dispatcher Course is offered in an online/classroom format. The hybrid course is comprised of two elements: a four-month (17 week) self-paced online portion that can begin at any time and must be completed prior to arriving for the onsite session at Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. Headquarters located in Houston, Texas. Please plan on being in Houston a few extra days to complete your practical examination.

The Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. hybrid Aircraft Dispatcher Course is comprised of two elements: a four-month (17 week) self-paced online portion and an 8-day classroom session. This course allows you to complete the majority of the coursework online over a four-month period. Once you complete the online requirements and pass the FAA Airman Knowledge Test, you will spend 8 days at our training facility in Houston, TX to complete the practical portion of your training. Your FAA Practical Test will be scheduled following the successful completion of the 8-day classroom session. Please plan on being in Houston a few extra days to complete the practical test.

This scholarship is established for the purpose of promoting and assisting aviation as a career choice and to make students aware of the opportunities in the Air Cargo Industry.

UPS is proud to offer four tool funding scholarships to put towards the purchase of the tools listed in the minimum required tool list for an Aviation Maintenance Technician. These scholarships are designed to help recent graduates looking to get started in the aviation field.

UPS is offering the option of choosing the training course, which best fits your needs! You can choose from any of the aircraft types in the UPS fleet (MD11, 767, 757, A300, 747) and courses ranging from Run/Taxi, Familiarization, Systems, Avionics, or a multitude of others depending upon training dates offered that match your schedule. Training is located at the maintenance facility in Louisville, KY. All expenses will be paid to the recipient upon completion of the course, including expenses needed due to work missed. This scholarship will expire one year from the date awarded.

This scholarship is offered to a woman with demonstrated interest in aviation safety or management in corporate or business aviation. This award is for the cost of tuition of the three-day Human Factors in Aviation Safety course offering by the USC Viterbi Aviation Safety and Security program. This program takes place on the USC campus and all housing, travel or associated fees are the responsibility of the winner. Who should apply: safety managers, training, flight department and maintenance managers and supervisors, pilots, air traffic controllers, dispatchers and schedulers.

The Small UAS Safety Certificate is designed to set a safety inspired foundation for any UAS operation. The Unmanned Safety Institute’s Small UAS Safety Certificate covers all pertinent aeronautical knowledge as outlined by the FAA and augments this knowledge with safety practices that will ensure all participants are responsible remote pilots ready to lead in the UAS industry. The Small UAS Safety Certificate meets both the safety-training requirement for USI PRO™ ratings and the FAA knowledge areas required for the Remote Pilot Airman Certificate.

The Vertical Flight Foundation (VFF) scholarships are awarded to college students demonstrating an interest in pursuing engineering related careers in vertical flight technology.

Since 2000, all VHPA Scholarships are administered for the VHPA by the AAAA (Army Aviation Association of America) Scholarship Foundation. All VHPA scholarships are open only to the children and grandchildren of VHPA members in good standing currently or at their death. The only exceptions are if the father or grandfather flew helicopters in Vietnam and was killed in action in Vietnam or was killed while on active duty prior to the beginning of the VHPA in 1983.

This scholarship is offered each year to undergraduate college sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Recipients can apply to renew their scholarship annually until they reach graduation.

Offering our Executive Excellence Initial Package is the top-tier product of our program. A 6-Day accelerated course that covers the initial steps taken in order to get into corporate aviation as a CFA. Our program will be taught by Executive Director, leading Captain, and Flight Attendants of the Corporate Aviation Sector.

This scholarship honors the legacy of Capt. Sara Knutson Cullen, a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot for the U.S. Army who perished on the same day as Lt. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney in Afghanistan. Her family shares that Sara was smart, funny, and driven to succeed. She had a strong faith and positively impacted those around her through her wit, kindness, and joyfulness. This scholarship is open to a female WAI member from any country, 18 years of age or older. It will be awarded to an individual pursuing a private helicopter (rotary wing) pilot rating.

Wings for Val Foundation has partnered with the woman-owned DARTdrones UAV Training School to provide a drone training scholarship for a female looking to get started in the drone industry. This scholarship includes the DARTdrones ultimate Professional Drone Pilot Package; designed to give you everything you need to pass the Part 107 Drone License exam, including six months access to their full online Part 107 Test Prep course and student guide.

The Wings for Val Foundation, www.wingsforval.org, honors the legacy of Lt. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney (May 14, 1986 — March 11, 2013), through a mission to support women in aviation and to inspire the next generation of female leaders. Val achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot when she earned her “Wings of Gold” in 2012 and started flying the EA-6B Prowler for the U.S. Navy. Just a year later, Val tragically lost her life in a training mission.

The WAI Atlanta Wheels Down South Chapter is offering a scholarship to aid an individual with the pursuit of his or her aviation dream. Applicants will be evaluated based on merit, career, aspirations, dedication, contributions to the community, and following application directions. Within the required 500-word descriptive essay, include the details of your aviation dream (flight, maintenance, management, etc.); how this scholarship will aid with your goal; where you hope to use this award; and an approximate timeline of completion for your goal.

Individual must be enrolled or accepted in an accredited two- or four-year college, technical institution, or certificate program with a declared interest in aviation. School must be a certified Part 141 flight school program, Part 91 flight training program, or a Part 147 aviation maintenance technician school.

The WAI Oshkosh Chapter Spirit of Flight Scholarship is open to women of all ages who have already soloed and are working on their recreational, sport pilot, private pilot, or commercial certificate; instrument or multi-engine rating; or CFI.

To encourage aspiring, young A&P’s to become interested in maintaining warbirds, we announced our Warbird A&P Scholarship program in February 2018. The Gordon Kibby Scholarship fund, which was made possible through a generous donation from the estate of NATA Member Gordon Kibby, has been merged with this fund.

This scholarship is offered each year to undergraduate college sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Recipients can apply to renew their scholarship annually until they reach graduation.

Scott and Jane Stuart via the Imperial Foundation

The Sporty’s Foundation is proud to donate $1,000 toward the purchase of tools listed in the minimum required tool list for an Aviation Maintenance Technician. This scholarship is designed to assist a student enrolled in an accredited A&P program to acquire the tools needed to pursue aviation maintenance as a career. Upon selection of the tools by the scholarship recipient, the funds will be paid directly to the retailer/seller of the tools. The tools will be shipped directly to the scholarship recipient.

PWC is creating a co-founder annually funded scholarship to encourage women in the FAA who are active air traffic controllers or Operational Supervisors to advance their career in aviation. Since aviation has been such a wonderful part of Sue’s life, she wants to encourage others to enter the field. There is no pre-requisite other than enrollment in an accredited college or technical school, in an aviation-related program. This scholarship is open to current Air Traffic Controllers/Supervisors, the Scholarship does require membership in PWC.

The AAAE Foundation offers a number of scholarships aimed at supporting Accredited Airport Executives (A.A.E.s) and their families, as well as scholarships to support the best and brightest future leaders in the profession.

Richard L. Waters – Pilot and mechanic, shared his knowledge and skills with individuals of all ages. This $500 cash award honors his memory and the principles that he exemplified as an innovator, mechanic, and individual. This award may be applied to any area of aircraft technology, construction, or maintenance. The award will be directly deposited to the school, vendor, or other institution of your choice.

Richard L. Waters – Pilot and mechanic, shared his knowledge and skills with individuals of all ages. This $500 cash award honors his memory and the principles that he exemplified as an innovator, mechanic, and individual. This award may be applied to any area of aircraft technology, construction, or maintenance. The award will be directly deposited to the school, vendor, or other institution of your choice.

The TAM Scholarship was created after sponsor Carolyn Burton, an American Airlines Mechanic identified a need for providing tools to a female student starting out in Aircraft Maintenance. Carolyn will offer one TOOL Scholarship for $2500 worth of TOOLS of your choice plus round-trip airfare. In addition, Snap-On Industrial is generously contributing an aviation starter tool kit with a value of $2500.

This scholarship is made possible by a contribution from Col Conway B. Jones, Jr. in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American airmen who fought in World War II at a time when racial segregation was practiced in the military and much of society in general. Their extraordinary legacy as dauntless trailblazers is captured in the Air Force refrain that challenges souls dreaming of skies to conquer to give us wings, ever to soar. In their spirit, this scholarship is offered to Air and Space Force personnel and their families to pursue and conquer their challenges.

This scholarship is open to current and former members of the Air and Space Forces to include Active Duty, Air National Guard, and Reservists as well as their spouses, children, and dependents. The scholarship may be applied to undergraduate or graduate degrees at a college or university or to pilot training towards a private pilot’s license at a flight training facility.

The mission of TASF is to honor the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen by providing motivation, access and scholarships to assist financially and academically deserving students in the pursuit of careers in aviation, aerospace, STEM as well as other disciplines. TASF is located in Los Angeles and serves as the national scholarship organization with Tuskegee Airmen, Inc (TAI).

This scholarship was established honoring the memory of Tyler Oslow and Chuck Kimes, two truly outstanding seaplane pilots that passed in 2011. The scholarship is intended to introduce aspiring professional pilots to the world of seaplane flying. Scholarships are awarded at multiple aviation events throughout the year, thus there is no specific deadline for applications. Exception: Specific scholarship awards at events such as, but not limited to the Northwest Aviation Conference, Great Alaska Aviation Gathering, and at Oshkosh where SPA will award scholarships at the event from a pool of applications received at the event.

Through the UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship, NBAA Charities annually awards a minimum of $1,000 to each of five undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula at NBAA and University Aviation Association (UAA) member institutions.

Whether it’s getting a private pilot’s license, an advanced certificate or rating, or even an A&P license or float plane endorsement, NGPA scholarships provide a stepping stone for aspiring individuals at a crucial point in their education. NGPA scholarships are open to everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their support and advocacy for the LGBT community.

Whether it’s getting a private pilot’s license, an advanced certificate or rating, or even an A&P license or float plane endorsement, NGPA scholarships provide a stepping stone for aspiring individuals at a crucial point in their education.
